Finance doesn’t run on money, it runs on trust.
The essence of finance is actually time travel. That might sound like a strange way to describe it, but if you think about it, that’s really what finance is. Saving moves resources from the present into the future. Financing moves resources from the future back into the present. Every financial system is essentially a mechanism for exchanging value across time. But that leads to a bigger point. Finance is not really about money. Money is just the thing we use to represent value. The thing that actually makes finance work is trust. Because every financial transaction is ultimately a promise about the future.
